Cast: Farhan Akhtar, Diana Penty, Ronit Roy, Gippy Grewal, Deepak Dobriyal, Rajesh Sharma, Inaamulhaq, Ravi Kishan
Lucknow Central movie director: Ranjit Tiwari
Duration: 2 hours 13 minutes
Written and directed by Ranjit Tiwari, “Lucknow Central” has a dramatic plot but moreover has some really nice performances.
Story of the Film:
Kishan Girhotra’s (Farhan) dreams of becoming a singer are shattered when he is falsely accused of murdering an IAS officer in Muradabad. Pronounced guilty, he is jailed for the crime he never committed. Deprived of the freedom he rightfully deserves, the sun shines on him once again even in captivity, as a bunch of prisoners and an NGO worker (Diana Penty) become his voice and the wind beneath his wings. Can he accomplish his dream of forming a band in the prison or does he manage to escape the dungeon?
Star Performance :
Farhan Akhtar is looks good in his emotional and intense scenes. Even though his performance in Lucknow Central may not be in the same orbit as his earlier film like Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. His performance could easily remind you of the Rock On franchise. Farhan Akhtar own the film like a king. His dialogue delivery is excellent.
Manoj Tiwari, his helplessness in the jail which is followed by a spark in his eyes when he realises his dream of forming a band, Farhan Akhtar own the film like a king. Giving him good support the other cast of the film Gippy Grewal, Deepak Dobriyal, Rajesh Sharma and Inaamulhaq, who have their moments of fame under the sun.Diana Penty, on the other hand, is super confident in her role of an NGO activist.Ravi Kishan as the ‘supercool cum calm minded cum sarcastic’ minister is really lovable and remarkable.
Ranjit Tiwari makes an extremely promising debut as a director in Bollywood. As for the music of the film, barring a couple of songs like the impressive ‘Teen Kabootar’ and ‘Kaavaan Kaavaan’, the film does not have any memorable songs. The film’s background score is commendable
The Last Word
Based on true life events, Lucknow Central is a feel-good, human, prison-break drama that succeeds to manipulate you emotionally, despite being predictable and filmy in portions. While the peg is somewhat similar (barring the undertrial element) to the recent Qaidi Band, Lucknow Central has a distinct execution and is way more evolved. The movie will work, but, only if the word of mouth publicity is extremely strong. Still, the film is recommended by us purely for its innovative script and stellar performances by the lead actors.
